    La conmovedora historia de Stephen, Burma y Puppi

    Esta es una de esas historias que nos ponen los pelos de punta y nos hace sacar nuestro lado más tierno. Pero sobre todo, es un relato que demuestra la lealtad incondicional de los animales y lo importante que son para nosotros.

    Stephen Simmons es un veterano de la Guerra de Irak que, tras su experiencia, presenta un trastorno de estrés postraumático que convierte su día a día en un desafío. Muchas mañanas se despierta totalmente abatido, sin querer ver a nadie ni levantarse de la cama, pero tiene una muy buena razón para hacerlo: sus mascotas.

    Sus héroes
    Puppi y Burna son los ángeles de la guarda de Stephen. Según él mismo cuenta, ambos son su mejor terapia para superar su problema y han transformado sus momentos de oscuridad en esperanza.

    Puppi es una perra que le acompaña desde el año 2004, cuando la encontró abandonada en las montañas. Durante el año que estuvo en la guerra, Puppi le estuvo esperando cada día y desde su regreso no se ha separado de él. “Cuando yo estoy feliz, ella también lo está. Si estoy triste, ella lo sabe”, asegura Stephen.

    La otra parte de esta historia tiene como protagonista a Burma, un precioso gato marrón rescatado por Stephen cuando se mudó a Oregon.

    Una terapia especial
    Junto a sus dos mascotas, Stephen lleva a cabo una ‘terapia de aventura’ o, lo que es lo mismo, un ‘tratamiento’ que consiste en salir a hacer senderismo y pasear por las montañas acompañado de sus fieles amigos, con los que cada día descubre nuevos e impresionantes lugares.

    En la cuenta de Instagram de Burma, Stephen comparte numerosas fotos de sus paseos y viajes, por lo que no es de extrañar que ya haya alcanzado los 48.000 seguidores.

    La mejor ayuda
    El ex soldado solo tiene palabras de agradecimiento para sus dos mascotas, de las que asegura que tienen un sexto sentido para detectar sus problemas emocionales y mejorar su estado de ánimo. Por eso afirma que si no hubiera sido por ellos, “no hubiera conocido al 90 por ciento de las personas con las que he mantenido una conversación”.

    It's national puppy day so happy puppy day to all puppies everywhere! I found Puppi on top of a mountain one night along the West Virginia Virginia border in 2004, she had been put out. She went home with us and within days she had bonded with my pack of dogs, become Fenris's best friend and mate, and had become obsessed with me. She has been ever since. Through the ups and downs of the last 12 years she's been faithfully by my side always just happy to be with me. She lived in our Jeep with me for the better part of 3 years in Oregon through extreme heat and cold, uncertain days, wildlife encounters, and traveling back and forth across the country. We've had lots of fun times. In 2012 she became my service dog through the Dept of Veterans Affairs, and she was with me the day I got Burma. Burma grew up not only close to me but as close to Puppi as well, often snuggled up in the passenger seat against her soft fur. He considered her a big sister and has always looked up to her. Without a doubt him following her along in the outdoors has had a lot to do with him being the cat he is. Puppi really only pays attention to me but she knows he's in our pack and I believe she really likes him being around. It hasn't been easy for her being mine, emotionally or physically, as she absorbs my emotions which at times have been extreme, and loyally follows me along through miles of rugged wilderness. My lifestyle molded and shaped their lives in many ways and without a doubt they've shaped and changed mine. Puppi has been by my side through much more than anyone and that's been something she deserves recognition for. : ) Puppi's dedication and love was summed up in film in the 2013 Purina Better with Pets video of her Burma and I, a video I'll share the URL to in our bio. It's a little personal and emotional for my liking, but it highlights the impact Puppi and Burma have had on my life and well being and she's deserving of me sharing that, if anyone would like to see.     Además, Stephen cree que pasando tiempo con sus animales y disfrutando juntos de la naturaleza ha podido volver a sentirse como la persona que realmente es y ha revivido al niño que hay en su interior.
